Thurs. Feb. 17 - Biking in the park

Summary:  Delicious day to ourselves.  Afternoon of exploration, evening of work.
_____

Frustrated.  So far this journal is not how I imagined -- a chance to luxuriate in my experience, to roll the images and ponderings around my tongue -- but instead its a rush to quickly note the day's happenings before they get buried by still more happenings.  I'm writing this on Friday afternoon.  What happened yesterday again...???

Oh yeah.  We slept late again and it was noon by the time we left our house.  If this were Boston we'd call it a perfect spring day:  warm sun, cool fresh air, clear blue sky.  Zig-zagged through the city streets
to a bike rental shop about a 40 min. walk away, received crappy old bikes but it was so fun to have wheels and soar through the main park in Tel Aviv, a wide green stretch along a river.  Date palms, eucalyptus trees... most of it still looks depressingly flat and dry and run down to us, New Englanders that we are, accustomed to verdant hills.  But there was one stretch of young green grass, glowing with the sun slanting through it.  Looked like chlorophyl heaven to our winter-starved eyes.  We lay down in it and breathed deep.  Ate lunch at a busy cafe filled with chic young things, and walked back home exhausted from air and sun and exercise.

Spent the next few hours anxiously over-preparing for a presentation the next day, getting grumpy with each other, processing, going to bed early but again being up for quite a while in the night, disturbed by traffic and people talking loudly on the street and the whirring of our own brains.
